He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Powell Smith and Grace Helton Smith; his son Russell Smith; his parents-in-law, John and Kate Wyatt; and his siblings, Billy Smith, Martha Sims, Mary Strott, Anne Turner, Charlotte Sprayberry, Sophie Powers and Reba Ortenburg.
He is survived by: his wife Melba Jean Wyatt Smith; his daughter Valerie; his son-in-law Danny Dewberry; his son Richard Smith (Christina Daniel); his sister Mildred Quinn; his grandchildren, Danielle Edwards, Amber Smith, Nathan Dewberry and David Smith; and his great grandchildren, Skyler Edwards and Riley Dewberry. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
