He was predeceased by: his parents, Don William Gaertner and Arlene Marian Gaertner; his brother Dennis Gaertner; his brother-in-law Ralph Trine; and his nephews, Donnie Trine, Scottie Osterink, John Osterink and Mark Osterink.

He is survived by: his wife Jane Gaertner of Carrollton; his siblings, Sheri Trine of Angola and Don Gaertner (Linda) of Juno Beach; and also Jim. He is also survived by his family and friends.

The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in memory of Jim to the Alzheimer's Association at act.alz.org or to the Tunnel To Towers Foundation at t2t.org.
