He was predeceased by: his parents, Calvin Porter Claxton, Sr. and Laura Evelyn Mabry Claxton; his brother Brooks Claxton; and his wife Martha Ann Mahanes Claxton. He is survived by: his sister Claire Presley; his grandchild Claire Childers (Scott); his children, Kristen, Zack, Sam and Calvin Claxton III (Nikki); his grandchildren, David, Christian, Laura and Claudia; his son James Claxton (Melissa); his grandchildren, Cecilia, Danielle, Shelby and Trista; and his children, Becky Welch (Wayne), Nick, Hannah, Natalie, Brian, Doug Claxton (Katie) and Everest.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to support The Asheville Symphony and Southern Appalachian Highland Conservancy.
