He was predeceased by: his parents, James Edward Simpson, Sr. and Mary Jeanette Holley Simpson; his wife Sallie Patricia Shiver Simpson; and his sisters, Mary Jane Kinsley, Joyce Minix and Brenda Phillips.
He is survived by: his daughters, Tammy Gilley (Charles) of Hartsfield and Tonya Ashley (Chas) of Edison; his grandchildren, Austin Ashley (Laura), Abigail Ashley and Chloe Gilley; his great grandchild Camila Ashley; and his siblings, Tommy Simpson (Kathy), Roger Simpson, Christine Simpson and Debbie Lane (Phil).
