He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Thomas Johns and Zora Mae Mangum Johns; his former wife Joyce D. Johns; and his daughter JoAnna Dawn Greene. He is survived by: his children, Joy Jones (Craig) of Sumter and Barry Eugene Johns (Trisha) of Severn, Maryland; his stepsons, Kevin Smith (Laura) of North Carolina and Mitchell Smith (Gail) of Danville, Georgia; and his siblings, Evelyn Pompa (Ed) of Victorville, Bobby Johns (Maggie) of Macon and Sandra Torres of Augusta, Georgia.
Visitation was held on Saturday, March 29th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Kalyn's Funeral Service (6040 Watson Blvd, Byron, GA 31008). A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 29th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Gene Johns to The Museum of Aviation at 1942 Heritage Blvd, Robins AFB, GA 31098 or The American Heart Association at PO Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
