He was predeceased by: his wife Gladys Allen Kimbro; his parents, Mae Kimbro and Price Kimbro; and his siblings, Gene Kimbro and Ruby Mathis.

He is survived by: his daughters, Sherri Vining and Linda Chalacoff (Gary); his grandchildren, Nicole Nichols, Taylor Nichols (Chris Rajek), Jacob Chalacoff (Angel Dooley) and Makayla Chalacoff; his great grandchildren, Brylee Bailey, Nolan Chalacoff and Renn Rajek; and his sister Wilma Smith.

“As a Capstone Hospice Volunteer, I would visit Leon every week starting February 1,2022, as a fellow soldier, we could talk for hours about our experiences in the military,most notably, when Leon was an MP in Korea, he escorted an ambassador to the Korean Peace talks. I always looked forward to seeing Leon sitting "on the porch" at Benton House, and to playing hymns for him on my telephone. Even now, when I visit Benton House,Staff and residents, always ask "How is Leon?"”
