He was predeceased by: his parent L. J. Barlow; his daughter Barbara Ann South; his mother Louise Barlow; his siblings, William Henry Barlow, Ruby Bynum, Nell Boyett and Jewel Granthem; and his granddaughter Jennifer Cruz.
He is survived by: his spouse Shirley Mae Cannon Barlow; his children, Joseph Franklin Barlow, Jr. (Gladys) of Boston, GA, Sarah Chambers of Boston, GA and June Dianne Kennedy of Boston, GA; and his grandchildren, Joseph Sculley (Carlotta), Jake Sculley, Shelly Combee (Dwayne), Jamie Newberry, Amanda Taylor, Patricia Stroud, Christina Stroud, Robert Chambers, Chad Chambers, William Beckwith and Stacy Kennedy. He is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren.
