He was predeceased by: his mother Billie Sue Thomas; and his father-in-law Winston Pickelsimer. He is survived by: his wife Angie Thomas; his father Bob Thomas; his sons, Tyler Russell Thomas, Anthony "Tony" Ryan Thomas (Sydney Baxter) and Taylor Robert Thomas; his brothers, Roger Thomas (Deanna) and Ricky Thomas (Christie); his nieces and nephews, Casey Thomas, Evan Thomas, Cody Davenport (Joselyn), April Wilson (Logan) and Andrea Campbell (Trey); his mother-in-law Frankie Pickelsimer; his brother-in-law Alan Pickelsimer (Ashlee); his nieces and nephews, Kirsten Pickelsimer, Hunter Bryson, Cayden Bigham and Maleia Bigham; and also Robert Turner.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Russell's name can be made to The North Georgia Mountain Crisis Network or Feed Fannin.
