He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Morgan Higginbotham and Henrietta Oleta Westfall; his wife Shirley Higginbothem; and his brothers, Wayne Higginbotham and Willard Jenkins.

He is survived by: his children, Sylvia Howell, Gary Higginbothem, Jr. (Diane), Nina Richardson and Michael Higginbothem (Amanda); his brothers, Lloyd Higginbotham (Barbara) and Charles Higginbotham (Donna); and his siblings-in-law, David Elkins and Gloria Shiver. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren; one great grandchild.
