He was predeceased by: his parents, E. Z. Melton and Mildred Scott Melton; his brothers, E. Z. Melton, Jr. and Billy Ray Melton; and his daughter-in-law Pam Melton.
He is survived by: his wife Oveida Melton of Blackshear; his children, Robert Dennis Melton, Jr. (Amanda Morris) of Blackshear, Janice Johnson (David) of Brantley County, James Edward Melton, Sr. (Lisa) of Blackshear and Jennifer Melton (Bryan Jones) of Blackshear; and his brothers, James Melton of Blackshear, Tommy Melton (Donna) of Blackshear and Jerry Melton of Waycross. He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren.
