He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Malachi and Etta Roberson Bowen; his grandson Michael "Major" Blackshear; and his siblings, Clara May Bowen, Margaret Votaw (Russell), Walt Bowen, Jack Bowen (Mae), Kent Bowen (Lavada), Bob Bowen, Cornelius Bowen, Bud Bowen (Virginia) and Quincy Bowen (Mary).
He is survived by: his wife Norene Smith Bowen of Blackshear; his children, Michelle Flynn (Bobby) of Blackshear and Mike Blackshear (Lori) of Blackshear; his stepchildren, Lynn Cheshire of Atlanta and Leslie Cheshire of Atlanta; his grandchildren, Colton Flynn of Blackshear and Mindie Blackshear of Blackshear; his stepgrandchildren, Jay of Waycross, Zoe of Waycross and Seth Cheshire of Waycross; and his sister Louise Thornberry (Harvey) of Massillon, Ohio. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
