He was predeceased by: his parents, Nathaniel Preston Kirkland, Sr. and Ida Marie Joyner Kirkland; and his siblings, Nathaniel Preston, Kirkland, Jr., Willie Edgar "Bill" Kirkland, Betty Lois Kirkland Wynn and James Albert Kirkland.

He is survived by: his wife Ruby Lee "Peggy" Milton Kirkland of Blackshear. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews.
