He was predeceased by: his wife Hilda Rakestraw Carter; and his stepson Frank O'Daniel. He is survived by: his children, Charles Carter (Laurie) of Bethlehem, Georgia, Jean Cuppy (Troy), Diane Franks (Tom) of Memphis and Kathy Tyge of Memphis, Tennessee; and his brother Benjamin Carter (Janice) of Houston, Texas.
