He was predeceased by: his parents, Paul Hiers and Corinne Hiers; and his sister Mary H. Williams. He is survived by: his children, Natalie Hiers Cooley (Brian), Phillip William Hiers, Candace Hiers Riddle (Mike) and Christopher Evans Hiers; his grandchildren, Adam Bussey, Alexis Bussey, Skye Riddle, Jordan Giffe and Reese Giffe (Katie); his great grandchild Hudson Giffe; his niece Mitzi McCoy; and his close friend Alice Varney.
