He was predeceased by: his parents, Dorothy Olcott Hodge of Worcester, MA and Everett Duncan Hodge of Worcester, MA.. He is survived by: his wife Sandra A. Hodge of Augusta, GA; his daughter Dr. Julia A. Hodge of Hillsboro, OR; and his grandson Calvin J. Richmond of Hillsboro, OR..
During his academic years, with graduate students and doctoral fellows, he did research in molecular cell biology and molecular virology, funded by grants awarded by the National Institute of Health and the American Cancer Society.
