He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas Burgett and Mary Murphy Burgett. He is survived by: his wife Shiela McIlwain Burgett of Auburn; his children, Philip McIlwain (Cindy), Charles (Michelle), David, Jeffery Smith (April), Mary Elizabeth and Wendy Smith; and his brother Stephen Burgett. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren.

The family has respectfully requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memory of Mr. Burgett to the Davita Braselton Dialysis Clinic at 1241 Friendship Road suite 130 Braselton, Georgia 30517.
