He was predeceased by: his parents, James Bankston Caughman and Elizabeth Jennings Caughman; his siblings, Jack Caughman and Lee Piepenbring; and his granddaughter Elizabeth Dunphy.

He is survived by: his wife Alison Caughman of Atlanta; his children, Shirah Dunphy (Robert) of Brooklyn, NY, Stewart Caughman (Whitfield) and Chris Caughman (Deborah) of Atlanta; and his siblings, Madeleine Ritchie of Pawleys Island, SC, Carlisle Harvard (Joe) of Durham, NC and Marvin Caughman (Rita) of Columbia, SC.

Wright's contributions to Emory spanned over three decades.

“I had the opportunity to spend some time with Wright during an Emory study abroad trip to Italy, and I would often run into him in the School of Medicine when I was there to teach Emory medical students. He always warmly welcomed me into his office to just sit and talk about the goings on around campus, my work with students and my interests in the humanities. He was not only kind & compassionate, but fun to be around and always cheerful and smiling. I will miss him, his presence, his smile.”
