He was predeceased by: his sister Janice B. Batts. He is survived by: his wife Celestine Bray Bottoms; his sons, Derek W. Bottoms (Keisha) and Darian W. Bottoms (Karrie); his grandchildren, Lance, Langston, Lennox and Lincoln Bottoms; his siblings, Jean B. Perry and Letrcia B. Alfred; and his brother-in-law James A. Batts. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends.

“Mrs. Bottoms, when the mayor was elected, I wondered if she was related to you. You were my history teacher at Northside when I had just moved to the South from Pennsylvania in 1972. Your recounting of the boycott of Rich's remains one of my most potent memories and I tell it to my students here in Italy when I teach about the Civil Rights Movement. I am so sorry for the loss of your husband, but am glad to be able to let you know how much your teaching meant to me. Shoshanna (Suzy) Zuckerman”
