He was predeceased by: his parents, Domonic Messina and Rose Messina (Saragusa). He is survived by: his sister Mary Licata (Sal); his nephews, Michael Messina, Robert Messina and Salvatore Licata III (Lauren); his niece Danielle Reith (Joseph); and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Domonic Licata, Luca Licata, Charlie Reith, Lily Reith and Mila Reith.

“Jim and I met Joe in 1989 at St. Thomas Aquinas church in Alpharetta, GA. I served as cantor at many of the churches where Joe was Liturgy director. We spent many Sunday mornings together in worship and praise. I marveled at his joy with anyone he met. He was especially kind and thoughtful to the children in their choir. He would bring donuts for them to enjoy after their practice. They loved that!! Joe was a great friend. I know he is now at peace. Your family is in our prayers.”
