She was predeceased by: her parents, Lillie Mae Hughley Harris and Edward Harris; and her brothers, Alfred Harris and Edward Harris (Peaky). She is survived by: her husband James Thomas Middlebrooks; her children, Dr. Jayne Thenise Morgan (Joe), Dr. Valerie Leah Johnson (Michael) and Kevin James Middlebrooks (Bijou); and her sister Yvonne Harris.
Dr. Middlebrooks earned her PhD in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University and received numerous accolades for her contributions to civil rights and education.
