She is survived by: her husband James Edward Thurmond; her children, James McIntre Thurmond and Marcy Lavette Thurmond; her grandchildren, Jahmori De'Jon Simmons and Mahogany Simone Simmons; her siblings, John Willie Walter (Sara), Emma Walter, James Edward Walter (Elsa), Robert Charles Walter (Bernice), Harry Lee Walter (Teresa), Larry Lee Walter (Angela), David L. Walter (Peggy) and John Howard (Gwen); and her siblings-in-law, Jewel Barnette, Catherine Archibald (Wrenford) and Michael L. Thurmond (Zola).
Viewing was held on Friday, September 27th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Jackson-McWhorter Funeral Home (1253 W Broad St, Athens, GA 30606). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, September 28th 2024 at 12:00 PM at the Hill Chapel Baptist Church (1692 W Hancock Ave, Athens, GA 30606).
