He was predeceased by: his parents, Dykes Carmichael Smith Sr. and Hassie Williams Smith; his brothers, Dykes C. Smith, Jr. and Dr. Darius Smith; and his siblings-in-law, June Smith, Dr. Jim Rogers and Wayne Bailey.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Osborne Smith; his daughters, Rebecca Smith Franklin (Mike) and Joy Catherine Smith; his stepchildren, Tiffany Segars Parrish (Dale), Jeffrey Segars (Christy) and Joshua Segars (Alicia); his grandchildren, Laura Franklin, Ethan Brown, Emma Brown, Russ Parrish (Amber), Sam Parrish (Jasmin), Logan Segars, Sadie Hill Segars, Tucker Segars, Lily Segars and Liam Segars; and his siblings, Dois Smith Rogers, Ann Smith (George), Vera Smith Mauldin, Ruth Smith Bailey, Dr. Leon Smith (Linda), Andrew Smith (Sandy), Dr. Amos Smith (Esther) and Jerry Smith (Terry). He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
