In the sacred silence of farewell, Joe is released into the embrace of eternity, knowing that his light will continue to shine brightly in the tapestry of the lives of his loved ones. And as his memory is carried forward, may comfort be found in the knowledge that love is eternal, and that Joe's spirit lives on in the beauty that surrounds us.
He is survived by: his wife Zadie Lee Smith; his children, Dr. Dorothy Neal of Athens, James Smith of Athens, Eva Smith of Athens, Greta Hancock (Ricky) of Athens, Cassandra Smith of Athens and Mary Smith of Columbus Georgia; and his siblings, Bobby Watkins and Linda Lou Watkins.
Viewing was held on Tuesday, February 11th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Jackson-Mc Whorter Funeral Home (1253 W Broad St, Athens, GA 30606). A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, February 12th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Shiloh Baptist Church (100 Buddy Christian Way, Athens, GA 30605).
