He was predeceased by: his parents, William Crandel and Minnie Mae Simpson Hewett; his wife Jonetta Duke Hewett; and his siblings, Frank, Elbert and Ruby Hewett.

He is survived by: his children, Ronald Hewett (Alice) of Butler, GA, Debra H. Ellis (Kempel) of Arlington and Donna H. Harrell (Wayne) of Arlington; and his siblings, Mildred Mitchel of Columbus, GA, Annette Harper of Abbeville, AL, Bennie Hewett of Gainesville, GA, Clifford Hewett of Monticello, FL and Minnie Pearl Burnett of North Carolina. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren.
