He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Louise Gray Cowart. He is survived by: his sons, Douglas Cowart of Alston and Randall Cowart of Charlotte, N. C.; and his brother Tholan Cowart of Jesup. He is also survived by two grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
