He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Lee Stokes, Sr. and Laura Bell Lewis Carter; his granddaughter Joanie Nicole Evans; his sister Dot Harden; his half-brother Vernon Wade; and his brothers-in-law, Prentice Harden and Donald Ray Meeks.
He is survived by: his wife Joann Kirkland Stokes; his children, Michael Stokes (Lori), Renee Carver (Tom) of Alma and Sandra Evans (Tim) of Alma; his siblings, Sidney "Bo" Stokes (Theresa) of Villa Rica, Vinnie Meeks and Sue Carter (Roger) of Nicholls; and his sister-in-law Sharon Wade. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren.
