He was predeceased by: his parents, Virgil Lee Atkinson, Sr. and Margie Atkinson Burnsed; his former wife Jenice Pettyjohn Atkinson; and his granddaughter Jinifer Atkinson. He is survived by: his wife Joleta Barker Atkinson of Adel; his son Lee; his daughter-in-law Stacey Atkinson of Eatonton, Georgia; his daughter Kim Atkinson Adams of Adrian, Georgia; his children-in-law, Clark, Connie Wheeler of Ashburn, Greg and Pam Wheeler of Alabama; his grandchildren, Caleb, Becky Atkinson of Nuremburg, German, Sarah Atkinson of Tifton, Seth Atkinson of Eatonton, Zachary Larrimore of Adrian, Georgia and Harley Adams of Adrian, Georgia; and his siblings, Winfred Atkinson of Orange Park, Florida and Willa Merle Brinson of Moniac, Florida.. He is also survived by several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, January 17th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Boone Funeral Home (1804 S Hutchinson Ave, Adel, GA 31620). A funeral service was held on Friday, January 17th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Friday, January 17th 2025 at 2:45 PM at the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens (8879 Val Del Rd, Adel, GA 31620).
