He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward G. Abel and Gladys K. Walliser Abel; his former wife Helene Ruth Kight Abel; and his brothers, Edward R. Abel and Lonnie Abel.
He is survived by: his wife Carole Bale; his children, Scott G. Abel and Tiffany S. Smedley; his brothers, Glenn K. Abel (Susan) and Lee G. Abel (Connie); and his sister-in-law Anna C. Abel of Holly Springs, N. C.. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, one great-granddaughter, and many lifelong friends and companions.
