Mary Lou (Hamlin/Curtis) Bupp Obituary

Mary Lou Bupp, age 73, of Zephyrhills, Fl, passed away Monday, June 10, 2024 surrounded by family. Mary was born in Alma, MI on April 23, 1951, the daughter of Frank and Helen (VanAtta) Hamlin and later, stepdaughter to John Wesley Curtis. She was a graduate of Shepherd High School.
She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in teaching from Central Michigan University.. Mary enjoyed working with students of all age groups and spent several years working with undergraduate students at both Central Michigan University and Mid-Michigan Community College. She moved to Florida in 2010 to be closer to her family and continued working in the education field. She especially treasured her time with elementary children where her lessons were exemplified by her creative skills.

Mary enjoyed sewing, quilting, reading, and singing. Mary used her sewing skills to make clothing as well as quilts for each of her family members. Her sewing skills carried over into her classroom where she invited the children to help in the making of a classroom quilt and she spent countless hours sewing cloth writing books and Christmas stockings (each year) for her students. Mary loved reading mystery/futuristic books, She and her granddaughter, Hannah would have frequent discussions regarding the books each was currently reading.

While living in Michigan, Mary was an active member of the Coe Church of Christ. She shared her beautiful voice to sing hymns at church, to teach little children Bible songs and to lead music for Vacation Bible School. This talent was also apparent in her Floridian parochial classroom where she used music and song to teach basic skills to her elementary students. And most recently, recorded her voice reading and singing to her great-granddaughter Gracelynn,

Mary will be remembered for her kindness and willingness to give whatever she had or could do for someone else and did not expect anything in return. She enthusiastically continued to tutor young students after retiring and while receiving treatments.

She is survived by her daughter Amber and Richard Logan of Zephyrhills, Fl, granddaughter Hannah and ZeUch Mitchell of Zephyrhills, Fl, grandson Collin Logan of Zephyrhills, Fl and great-granddaughter Gracelynn of Zephyrhills, Fl, sister Beverly and Gary Zell of Holland, MI, sister Barbara and Bruce Leonard of Elwell, MI, sister Shirley and Paul Mizzi of Fenton, MI, sister Betty and Brad Matznick of Cadillac, MI, and sister Verna and Rodney Koutz of Alma, MI. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her sibling Brenda Merizon, and her great-grandson Isaiah River Mitchell.

A private memorial service was held on June 29, 2024 at Salt River Cemetery in Shepherd, MI at 11 am. Brian Ross officiated the service with longtime friend Cheryl, niece Jamie, sister Barb, and daughter Amber sharing remembrances of Mary.
