He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Benson and Margaret Benson; his wife Louise; his son David; and his brother Richard.

He is survived by: his daughter Elizabeth; and his sister Elizabeth (Gary). He is also survived by four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, two sister-in-law's and numerous nieces and nephews.
