She was predeceased by: her parents, Elijah Mue Kariuki and Rebeccah Nyambura; and her siblings, Grace Nzisa, David Mwaura and Hannah Muthoni Gathua.
She is survived by: her spouse Professor John Gathegi; her children, Nathan, Edi (Adriana) and Beti Gathegi; her siblings, Joseph Kariuki (Matilda), Stephen Kamau (Rachel), Beth Njoki, Esther Wanjiku, Rosemary Mue, Njonjo Mue and Nancy Mue; and her parents-in-law, Anne Muthoni Wanjohi, Simon Kimari Mburu and Benson Kibari Mburu. She is also survived by her family, friends, nieces and nephews.
