He was predeceased by: his wife Theda "Pete" Swails; his son Michael Lewis Swails; his parents, Lewis Benjamin and Mamie Swails; and his siblings, James Swails, Vianna Gray, Sarah Harris, Lanie Morris, Melissa Poncier, Matteline Grimsley, Melba Brown and Estelle Crawford.
He is survived by: his sister Virginia Dierker; his daughter Beverly Cornelius (Jeffrey); his grandchildren, Jacob Lee Cornelius (Laurel) and Miranda Leyshon (Phil); and his great grandchildren, Weslee, Rigdon, Griffin Cornelius and Thomas Leyshon. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
