He was predeceased by: his parents, John Ashby and May Ashby. He is survived by: his wife Dede Ashby; his sister Ann Helms; his nephew Gerald Houston Helms, Jr.; his great-nieces, Kimberly Ann Ashby and Julie Andrews Ashby Citrin (Ben); his great-nephew John Scott Ashby (Sue); his stepchildren, Laurie Lee Connelly (Brian) and James Evan Higdon, III (Lori); his grandchildren, Chad Ashby (Mindy), Brooke Ashby, Will Ashby (Tori), Reid Ashby (Emily), Andrew Yale Citrin, Harrison Scott Citrin, John Bradley Citrin, Benjamin Taylor Citrin and James Clayton Helms; his great grandchildren, Caedmon, Griffin, Fletcher, Teddy, Caroline, Davis, Peter, Warner and Amelia Ashby; and his stepgrandchildren, Dalton Connelly, Claire Connelly, Chandler Higdon and Avery Higdon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Youth Guidance or the ARC of Indian River County.
