James Shaddix Obituary
It is always difficult saying goodbye to someone we love and cherish. Family and friends must say goodbye to their beloved James Shaddix (Umatilla, Florida), who passed away at the age of 83, on April 24, 2018. You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.
He was loved and cherished by many people including: his spouse Ginger Love; his children, James Shaddix (Lucy), Carolyn Gardinier (Jim), Sandy Talluto (Sam), Sunny Brutus (Lindsey) and Bill Shaddix (Ginny); and also Forever Love.
He was "Pa James" to 30 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, "Mr. James" to countless children of the Daytona Beach and Astor areas, and "Friend" to all who knew him. James was a strong man of faith and believed in the celebration of life through service, so early on he dedicated himself to making this world a better place. He proudly served in the United States Navy and modeled for his children "American Pride!" He was actively involved in extra-curricular activities at the local schools both through his children and his work and never missed an event if his children were participating. He was active in the Mainland High School Class of '53 Alumni Group where he loved to share stories with his friends. He served the community through his work at the Pure Ice Company, insisting that any athlete needing to cool off was given a chunk of ice as they walked from Mainland High School on Bay Street to practice near the current Bethune Cookman University and back again! Even suggesting that any employee who did not, would be fired! He supported his "Pretty Lady" for 26 years with the City of Daytona Beach Parks and Recreation Department. He never blinked an eye when she had an idea which would provide enriching experiences to children, including taking a busload of kids to Miami to see the Jets play professional football. James left the ice business and moved to management at Colonial Colony North where he continued to serve. He organized trips for his resident families which took them on adventures they never thought possible! After retirement, James continued to serve in his new community through the Youth Ministry at the Astor Baptist Church with an extra special focus on Vacation Bible School. He was an active member of the Kiwanis International of Astor, and the Astor Community Association. He and his bride, Ginger, were honored to receive the Community Spirit Award in 2010 for their contribution and commitment to the betterment of the Astor Community. James is pre-deceased by his bride, Ginger Shaddix (aka Ma Ginger and Pretty Lady), his loving parents Orville and Rosalie Shaddix, mother and father in law Marko and Ann Galbreath, and brother in law Dr. Mark Galbreath. James is survived by his five children and their families, brother Bill (Nancy) Shaddix, brother in law, Jim (Sarah) Galbreath, sister in law, Emily Galbreath, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In lieu of flowers and as a legacy to James' continuous service, please honor his wishes by directing donations in James' name to, the First Baptist Church of Astor Vacation Bible School (24731 Ann Street Astor, Fl 32102). "Rest well, Pa James, a good and faithful servant!".
