He was predeceased by: his parents, Richard Ray Pittman and Pauline Dunn Ward Pittman; his sister Mona Gay Pittman Creel; and his half-siblings, Augusta Ward and J. C. Ward.

He is survived by: his wife Laurie Pittman; his daughter Helen Rivera (Daniel); his grandchildren, Aubree Rivera and Maxum Rivera; his half-sister Ruby Ward Rinehart; his aunt Sue Craig; and his pets, Robby, Laurie and Jimmy. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made in James' name to the Hospice of St. Francis, Titusville, FL.
