He was predeceased by: his parent Elnora Whitson; and his son Greg. He is survived by: his wife Patty; his children, Chris Whitson (Vicki) and Melissa Piotrowski (Brad); his grandchildren, Steven Whitson (Kenzi), Chad Comer (Halley), Aidan Piotrowski and Addison Piotrowski; and his great grandchild Logan Comer.

Donations can be made in his honor to American Lung Association and Marion County Humane Society.
