It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Herman Edward Smith (The Villages, Florida), who passed away on June 17, 2021, at the age of 84, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, John Herman Smith and Jane Thomasina (Dinkins); and his sister Jane "Patsy" Patricia Williams (Smith). He is survived by: his wife Mary Frances (Reid); his children, Mark of The Villages, FL, Susan of New Haven, CT and Scott (Jane) of Westport, CT; his grandsons, Brandon of Philadelphia, PA, Jacob and Joshua of Westport, CT; his cousins, Catherine Hasben Middleton of Orangeburg, SC, Almedia "Bea" Dinkins Nelson of Raleigh, NC and John Borie Dinkins of Mint Hill, NC; and his parents-in-law, Lloyd Mayfield (Joyce) and Charlene Tyson (Pertillar) of The Villages, FL.

In lieu of flowers, it is asked that contributions are made to that scholarship once it is established or donations are made to another charity that fittingly honors Herman's kind spirit, generous soul, and full life.
