He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl Cecil Powell and Malvie Opal Powell; his son Douglas Carl Powell; and his siblings, Carl Lawrence Powell, Jerry Eugene Powell and Sarah Jane Powell.

He is survived by: his wife Patricia; his daughters, Debra Andres (George) and Darlene Combs (Sam); his grandchildren, Deanna Benz (Rob), Jeanna Russo (Frank), Calvin Carl Powell, Mallory Renea Combs and Tanner Reed Combs; his great grandchild Jensen Richard Russo; and his brother Steve Powell (Becky) of Hixson, TN. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
