He was predeceased by: his parents, Rev. William Josiah and Minnie Miller Hurst; and his brothers, Silvanus Hurst and Eliel Hurst. He is survived by: his wife Evelyn Lucille "Lou" Hurst of Tallahassee, FL; his children, David Hurst (Suzette) of Lewes, DE, Mark Hurst (Carol) of Lakeland, FL, Anton Hurst (Andra) of Tallahassee, FL, Paul Hurst of Tallahassee, FL and Barbara O'Neal of St. Petersburg, FL.; and his grandchildren, Matthew Hurst, Christopher Hurst, Jonathan Hurst, Brandon Hurst, Brittany Tillman, Katie Parrish, Ryan Hurst, Zach Hurst, Parker Hurst, Steven O'Neal and Danielle O'Neal. He is also survived by fifteen great-grandchildren.
