He began his military career at age 18 and proudly served in the US Army for 22 years, primarily as a Military Police Officer and later as an Army Recruiter. During his military career, he served in many tours overseas including the Vietnam War. Upon retirement from the US Army, he worked closely with the youth, first at the State of Connecticut Corrections Department Juvenile Division then as an elementary school bus driver. He continued his stewardship as a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
Pete was an avid bowler and participated in competitive bowling leagues throughout his lifetime. He also enjoyed woodworking and selling his creations at craft fairs with his wife, Alma. When he was raising his family, countless evenings and weekends were spent supporting his children during sporting events which often ended with a trip to Dairy Queen or Friendly's (loser - ice cream cone, winner - ice cream sundae, homerun - Jim Dandy). He also enjoyed traveling, a good meal, and spending time with his family.
In his later years, Pete moved to Florida, declaring it was his "last stop", to be near his devoted daughter and her family after Alma's passing in 2015. He truly enjoyed his final years, not only participating but thriving as an active and beloved resident and ambassador at the Brookdale/Pacifica Sunrise community, partaking in daily bingo, social events, and sharing his humor with the other residents and staff. A few of his most cherished recent adventures were a trip to the 2018 Minnesota State Fair on a record-breaking attendance day, proudly participating in the first Honor Flight of South Florida recognizing Vietnam Veterans in October 2018, and his numerous trips to Hollywood Beach and the Florida Keys.
Pete was preceded in death by: his loving wife of 32 years, Alma, his father Henry, his mother Ethel, and his sister Lorraine Fitzgerald.
Pete is survived by: his children Gloria Dube Metin and her former husband Huseyin, Thomas Dube and his wife Rhonda, David Dube and his wife Maureen, Gregory Dube and his wife Joni, his sister Doris Stoliker, and his cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-children, step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
