Shirley Marie (Castleberry) Curry Obituary

We are sad to announce the death of Shirley Marie (Castleberry) Curry of Spring Hill, FL, who passed away on February 17, 2025, at the age of 92. Her husband Melvin, their three daughters Rebecca Bersot, Barbara Otwell, Erin Fielding, and grandson Kyle Otwell were at her bedside when she passed.

Shirley was born in Miami, FL June 6, 1932, graduated from Miami Edison High School in 1950 and attended Florida Christian College in Temple Terrace, FL. She was inducted into the Honor Society of both institutions. She married Melvin D. Curry Jr. on May 31, 1952 in Miami, FL. They lived sequentially in Tampa, FL; Fairvilla, FL; Winter Garden, FL; Grandview, MO; Searcy, AK; Oak Park, IL; Oak Lawn, IL; Berwyn, IL; Temple Terrace, FL; and Spring Hill, FL. Melvin began teaching at Florida College in Temple Terrace, FL in 1963 and was affiliated with the college for 34 yrs. They retired to Spring Hill, FL in addition to spending 25 summers at their cabin in Cripple Creek, CO.

She was preceded in death by her father Claude Franklin Castleberry, her mother Lucille (Chapman) Castleberry, and her sister Betty Jean Henderson.
She is survived by her husband Melvin D. Curry Jr.; five children, Thomas Mark Curry, Rebecca Lynn Bersot, Barbara Jean Otwell, David Lee Curry, Erin Kathleen Fielding; fourteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grand children.

Shirley was a faithful Christian and a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was beautiful inside and out serving God first, others second, and lastly herself. Her spiritual and physical beauty were apparent to all who knew her.

At Shirley's request there will be a private family memorial service on March 28, 2025 in Land O Lakes, FL.
