She was predeceased by: her parents, Stanley Whitacre and Zelda Whitacre (Bordner); her brother Richard Whitacres (Dick); her sisters-in-law, Joan Whitacre and Janet Whitacre; her niece Jan Lee Bibee; and her nephew Theodore Whitacre (Marna Dale Smith).

She is survived by: her spouse Melissa Hastings; her brother James Whitacre (Vicki); and her nieces and nephews, Cheryl Tavan (Jim), Stacey Whitacre, William Whitacre (Joan), Scott Whitacre (Donna) and Jamie Whitacre (Melanie).

Charitable donations may be made in Ms. Shaffer's memory to the animal rescue organization of the donor's choice.
