He was predeceased by: his parents, Mills Tomlin Sr. and Margaret Paige Tomlin; and his close friend James Hicks. He is survived by: his significant other Vicki; his children, Erin Wilson (Cole) and Thomas Tomlin; his grandchildren, Eun (Tomlin), Calvin Tomlin, Brooks Wilson and Vivian Wilson; and his siblings, Mills Tomlin, Jr. (Claudia), Harvey Tomlin, Pam Burke, Sheila Tomlin and Ken Tomlin (Angela). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be gifted to some of Merrell's favorite charities: The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Wounded Warrior Project, and Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Being around him was a master class in how to live life to the fullest and to lead and manage people by expecting their absolute best. You just wanted to give your absolute best for him. We are richer for knowing him and in time will laugh as we remember our times with him. You will be missed but not forgotten”

“I first met Merrell in 1992 when I went to work for Casio and shortly thereafter he became my boss. We developed a friendship that included him hiring me to work for him at Rayovac years later. While we met at work we became personal friends shortly. Out birthday's are one day and one year apart and we discovered we had similar personalities and interests. His passing is tough for me to grasp and it will be a while before it settles in for me. My condolences to his family.”
