He is survived by: his wife Lynn; his children, Lauren Fulton (John), Craig Nielsen (Michelle) and Gerald Nielsen Jr. (Victoria); his grandchildren, Logan, Peyton, Tre, Jon, Bryce, Morgan, Tyler, Thorin and Riley; and his sisters, Elaine Merrell, Doris Nielsen and Phyllis Garrett.
