He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse Smith and Mary Parrott; his wife Phyllis Marie Brown; and his siblings, Vernon Smith, Denny Smith, William Smith, Laura Lightcap and Ada Smith.

He is survived by: his children, Timothy Smith (Kandie) of St. Augustine, Laurie Smith of Holly Hill and Belinda Dawson (Phillip) of Chesapeake, Virginia; his grandchildren, Rebecca Smith of Cincinnati, Adam Smith (Jessy) of Indianapolis, Christopher Dawson (Tania) of Castle Rock, Kaitlyn Rocheleau (Chris) of Honolulu and Kelsey Dawson of Chesapeake, VA; and his great grandchild Grey Carter Rocheleau. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
