He was predeceased by: his parents, Warren Wells Means and Helen Genevieve Means (Chapman); his daughter Anissa Mayhew; and his granddaughter Jessica Nagle. He is survived by: his wife Dixie L. Means (Drake); his children, Angela Grimble (Tom) and Kevin Means (Betty); his siblings, Phyllis McCowan (Richard), Cheryl Johnson, Shelia Granby (John) and Rick Means (Connie); his grandchildren, Elaine, Katie, Stephanie, Rosemary, Nathaniel, Rachael and Peyton; and his son-in-law Peter Mayhew. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
