He was predeceased by: his parents, Nelson Isaiah and Lillie Mae Goings Sweeney; and his siblings, Becky, Lillian, Fredrica, Buddy and Teddy.

He is survived by: his wife Jeanette Clark Sweeney; his children, Harvey Roe Sweeney Jr., Lucynda Sweeney Herrin (Bob), Herbert Clark Sweeney (Vicki) and Kenneth Al Sweeney; his grandchildren, Kathleen Herrin Theriot (Bret), Robert Lee Herrin III, Christopher Clark Herrin, Carl Judson Allen and Shannon Barron Renmer (Aaron); and his great grandchildren, Ethan Gabriel Theriot, Madison Claire Theriot, Rowan Clark Theriot, Lane David Herrin, Audrey Jean Herrin and Sarah Riley Renmer.
