He was predeceased by: his parents, Ethel Martin (Geren) and Paul William Martin Senior; his sister Grace Martin Palsha; and his wife Susan Nosker Martin.

In 2000 he was awarded the Distinguished Service Award for contributions to State of Ohio Citizens and Ohio's Fire Service and was inducted into the State of Ohio Fire Hall of Fame by Ohio Governor Bob Taft.
