He was predeceased by: his parents, Anna Yerty and Orville Yerty; his former wife Marjorie (Rager); and his siblings, Landis, Byron Yerty and Avonell Garrett.

He is survived by: his wife Gail Yerty (Shirk); his sons, Duane Yerty (Virginia) and Jack Thornton (Tammy); his grandsons, Derek Yerty and Cory Thornton (Shasta); his great grandchildren, Jacob and Joel Thornton; his siblings, Cordell Yerty, Audrey Peiffer and Sonja Malloy; his siblings-in-law, Donna Bracken (Roger), Jack Shirk (Kellee) and James Knauer (Sharon); and his pets, Digger, Duke and Bandit. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
