He was predeceased by: his parents, Gisto "Lee" Canestrari and Mary Canestrari (O'Brien); his former wife Robin (Ehrhard); and his brothers, Gary and Peter Canestrari.

He is survived by: his wife Pamela Canestrari (Close); his son Joseph Canestrari, Jr. (Audra); his grandchildren, Joseph, Julia, Jace and Jackson; his sons, Lee Canestrari, Michael Canestrari and Matthew Canestrari (Hannah); his grandchild Finn; his stepdaughter Katherine Starkey; and his siblings, Brian O'Brien of Matthews, NC, Linda Gover (Donald) of Sandy Hook, CT, David Canestrari (Kathleen) of Durham, CT and Mary Ann Simonelli (Robert) of Bethel, CT. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces and other family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations be made to United Cerebral Palsy of Central Florida.
